Testimonials

“Working with Kristy Day was reminiscent and nostalgic of my deceased father Roy McIvor’s lessons and teachings.  He was an Indigenous artist, storyteller, Lutheran Evangelist, carpenter, stockman, fencer and basically a ‘jack of all trades’ who taught me the meaning of an important Guugu Yimithirr word ‘AWUUN’. Its translation is ‘perfect and spot on’, used in various ways and adapted in the modern context.

As an example, the ‘sighter’ would yell out ‘Awuun’ to the fencing or carpentry team that the posts were in straight alignment. This was during the ‘old school’ fencing and carpentry days, before the invention of modern survey and drafting technologies. My father was a perfectionist with a strong work ethic and applied ‘awuun’ to his life as he did not like ‘crooked’ and messy work.

The ‘Welcome to Binthi Country’ sign project was an amazing experience that made the Binthi Warra clan proud of their culture and heritage. It also has a positive impact to our community and wider general public as an educational resource on a contemporary medium. Kristy effortlessly and perfectly created designs and illustrations to tell our ancient story that spans thousands of years onto a 3 metre x 1.5 metre sign.  Her graphic design and illustration skills and knowledge are ‘AWUUN’

I look forward to ‘walk down memory lane’ with Bowerbird’s Kristy again to work on other projects and have no hesitation to highly recommend her to others.”

“Kristy has consistently produced high-quality interpretive material, such as our popular kids audio tours, native botanic gardens signage and interactive display walls. Her knowledge and passion for the environment combined with her creative ability and willingness has ensured success with all of these projects. I would have no hesitation in recommending Kristy for any future undertaking she pursues.”
